Who We Are

The Burnet County Museum and Cultural Center is an outreach of the Old Burnet Community Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to the preservation of Burnet history through the memorialization of the people and events that have shaped the community through its generations.

The Old Burnet Community Center started as an effort by founder Tex Robertson to instill pride in community service through the recognition of members of the community who had contributed to the growth and success of the area in various capacities as public servants, business owners and volunteers. In the beginning, citizens were recognized several times a year as Honor Citizens and given a day of tribute with a public ceremony at what was then the building referred to as The Community Center, which was the historic Badger Building on the town Square.

That building was vacated in 2015 when it was donated by the Robertson family to the City of Burnet for economic development. In 2021, an agreement was arranged with Burnet County and the Burnet Independent School District to utilize a former high school, known as the Old Red Brick School, to establish the new museum and continue the mission of recognizing past Honor Citizens and people of note who were instrumental to the development of Burnet and the surrounding area.

The museum is currently being filled with displays that represent the people and significant events of the past while building a show-case for the present.
